MUSEUM INTERPRETER

Historic St. Mary’s City, a museum of living history and archaeology, located on the site of Maryland’s first capital (1634-1695), seeks qualified individuals for museum interpreter positions in the Public Programs Department.  These are full-time, seasonal positions (at $9.00/hour) from mid-April through November 2008, including weekends.  Interpreters work in uniform or 17th-century costume (provided).  Interpreters use first-person techniques (portraying an historical person at the plantation) or third-person techniques (non-character, in either uniform or costume.)  These unique positions provide the opportunity to teach history to visitors of all ages and backgrounds in an outdoor classroom at the museum’s living history sites: the Godiah Spray Plantation, the Woodland Indian Hamlet, the Maryland Dove (a square-rigged ship), or the original Town Center.  Enthusiasm, team-mentality, and desire to learn and develop 17th-century skills are must.  Candidates must also have excellent communication skills and be able to work with small and large groups.

No e-mail applications, please. Positions open until filled
