Program Description

The Terra Mariae Society Youth Interpreter Program is a unique educational opportunity guaranteed to enrich and encourage young minds.  The program provides students with an understanding of Maryland history and the 17th century.  Students will also sharpen their communication skills while they interact with the public as interpreters on the Godiah Spray Tobacco Plantation.  Students selected for the program will assist in enhancing the overall quality of Historic St. Mary’s City as a museum.  The program runs from March through December and requires a commitment of two to three days per week, three to four hours per day.

Comments made by parents involved in the program:

“The program was exceptionally well organized from the beginning, and the requirements for the youth involved seemed to me just right for us to meet the standards for our son’s history curriculum in our homeschool program.  You helped make my job easy!”

“. . . learned much about Maryland and about doing work enthusiastically.  This program supplemented our homeschool program of study very well and the flexibility of the schedule was helpful.  Our son, being required to go through the mechanics of interviewing for this position and writing a report on direct experiences, learned aspects of working life normally introduced to youth at an older age.”

“I would recommend the Terra Mariae Society to anyone interested in learning history
in a hands-on way.”
