Follow Interstate 97 South towards the Bay Bridge until it ends at U.S. Routes 50 and 301. Follow Rte. 301 South towards Richmond. Take exit for Maryland Rte. 4 south, towards Prince Frederick. Continue on to Solomons Island; continue across large bridge over the Patuxent River, to traffic light at intersection of Rte. 4 & Rte. 235.
To avoid congestion at Lexington Park, continue on Route 4 for 8.5 miles until it ends at the intersection of Route 5. Turn left onto Rte. 5 and travel south about 14 miles. You will see a sign welcoming you to St. Mary's City then the St. Mary's River on the right as you enter the St. Mary's College of Maryland campus.
To the State House, the Shop at Farthing's Ordinary, and the Gazebo (47418 Old State House Road, St. Mary's City):
Just past the water, take the first right onto Trinity Church Road . Go up the hill, straight ahead is a tall brick building with the sign "State House of 1676". You may park in the parking lot just past the State House on the right side.To the Visitor Center (18751 Hogaboom Lane, St. Mary's City):
Look for Rosecroft Road on the right. Take Rosecroft Road, and then take first right (Hogaboom Lane) to the Visitor Center.
